Merissa Morgan's putback with three seconds to play capped a comeback from a deficit as large as 13, and Peters Township edged Erie McDowell, 49-48, in a PIAA Class AAAA girls' basketball tournament play-in game Tuesday night.
Morgan had nine of her 12 points in the fourth quarter, when host Peters Township (14-12) outscored the Trojans, 24-11.
"We just chipped away," Indians coach Kyra Kaylor said. "Our kids fought back. That's been their m.o. all playoffs."
Emily Matthis had eight of her team-high 16 points and added 13 offensive rebounds for Peters Township.
Leah Krause had 19 points for Erie McDowell (13-12).
All play-in round winners advance to first-round games Friday and Saturday.
Bethel Park 57, Schenley 31: Candace Martino had 16 points to give her 1,001 in her career to lead the host Black Hawks (19-6) in a Class AAAA game. London McCoy of Schenley (12-13) had all her game-high 16 points in the second half.
Fox Chapel 63, Hollidaysburg 45: In Class AAAA, Jenny Papich had 15 of her 25 points in the second half for the host Foxes (19-4), who won for the eighth time in their past 10 games. Elle Collins led the Golden Tigers (13-10) with 12 points.
Blackhawk 46, Westinghouse 31: Alexa Hayward had 10 of her game-high 13 points in the first half, when the host Cougars (15-8) built a big lead against the Bulldogs (19-7) in Class AAA.
Bishop Canevin 58, Kane 39: Erin Waskowiak had 15 points and six rebounds as the host Crusaders (18-6) beat the Wolves (21-6) in Class AA.
McKeesport 65, State College 50: The host Tigers (16-7) shot 52 percent from the field and held a 40-25 advantage in rebounds. McKeesport's Ty-Meer Brown had 18 points and Kendall Hunter 17. Taran Buie had 28 points off the bench to lead the Little Lions (15-7).
North Allegheny 74, Carrick 57: Jack Counahan had eight 3-pointers as part of his game-high 29 points as the host Tigers (20-5) advanced with a win against the Raiders (10-14) in Class AAAA.
Erie Cathedral Prep 48, Upper St. Clair 42: Rasean Thrower had 11 points as the District 10 Ramblers (15-10) won at Upper St. Clair (15-10) in Class AAAA.
Montour 63, Perry 60: In Class AAA, Austin Heter had 17 points and 10 rebounds as the host Spartans (15-8) beat the Commodores (18-6).
Jeannette 59, Kane 45: Demetrious Cox had 19 points and the host Jayhawks (17-8) won a PIAA Class AA tournament game for the seventh consecutive season.
