Different man charged in fatal Beaver Falls beating
Thursday, July 29, 2010

Charges were withdrawn against a Beaver County man accused in a beating that resulted in a man's death, and prosecutors have charged a new suspect.

The charges stem from the July 15 beating of Richard Littell, 62, who died of his injuries Friday in UPMC Presbyterian.

Police initially arrested Mark Omogrosso, 54, of Beaver Falls, whose family said was actually a close friend of the victim. He was charged with the assault, but he hadn't been charged with homicide.

Today, District Attorney Anthony Berosh announced that all charges against Mr. Omogrosso have been dropped.

Instead, Raymond Ball, 40, of Beaver Falls, has been charged with the assault and the homicide.

A third, unidentified man may be charged as an accomplice in the assault.

Mr. Berosh said Mr. Littell had been in a car with the two other men and stopped in front of a bar on 24th Street.

Mr. Littell got out and was arguing with the suspect, who allegedly punched the victim twice, causing him to strike his head on the ground. The other two then drove away.

Bystanders tended to Mr. Littell until medics arrived.

Mr. Berosh would not say what the argument was about.
