Penguins center Jordan Staal has been dealing with an infection following surgery on his right foot that will force him to miss the start of training camp, but it is not considered serious and the team said in a statment that it expects him to be ready for the season opener Oct. 7.
Staal got hurt April 30 when the skate of Montreal's P.K. Subban sliced through the top of Staal's skate and cut a tendon on the top of his foot. He had surgery that night and returned after missing just two playoff games. He had further surgery earlier this summer.
Staal, a key component of the Penguins' young core, was re-evaluated this week.
